Projects
Since 2009, School Aid South Africa has been on a mission to develop a culture of reading in disadvantaged schools and communities across South Africa.
We believe literacy is the key to a brighter future and our work is dedicated to making that future accessible to all.
What We Do
In partnership with schools, generous funders, and dedicated volunteers, we create vibrant, sustainable school libraries in communities where access to books is severely limited.
We work with each school to establish libraries that are safe, inviting and well stocked with both fiction and non-fiction books, plus other vital educational resources.
We identify partner schools able to integrate a fully functional, managed library with a trained Library Assistant. This plays a core role in the school's teaching and learning.
We help each school recruit a young adult member of the community as a paid Library Assistant, able to manage the day to day running of the library.
We train and mentor each Library Assistant so that they acquire the skills necessary to support individual learners and run activities that maximise the learners' engagement and enjoyment of their school library.
Since 2009 we have delivered over 300,000 fiction and non-fiction books and created over 20 school libraries.
Join Us
Our mission is ongoing. Our aim is to spread the benefit of sustainable school libraries to even more schools and learners, sparking a lifelong love for reading in every community. With your support, we can create a world where every child has the chance to write their own brighter future.
Together, let's transform lives, one book at a time.
